Milwaukee's "Belt of Hope"

The "Belt of Hope" is a stretch of downtown Milwaukee that goes from the River on the east, 35th Street in the west, Center Street in the north, and the Interstate in the south. It includes a number of neighborhoods, including the important Brewer's Hill neighborhood outlined in red on the map, just west of the Milwaukee River. It is in this area that we see a wide variety of racial and cultural groups, along with a great diversity of class and economic status. There is much to do in the Belt of Hope! This is where God is working, and our part is to bring the gospel of God's merciful grace to this key part of Milwaukee, and then reach toward the northwest side as we build a beachhead of support in and around Brewer's Hill.

The vision is simple. We believe God has called us to labor in downtown Milwaukee with other like-minded believers in Jesus Christ in building His kingdom. We believe we are called to go where people have not heard the gospel, from neighborhood laundromats to corner bars and taverns, and spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe we are called to be true family, demonstrating in our lives the love and restoration of the gospel.
The Milwaukee Project is a Church Plant effort in downtown Milwaukee with Dan and Sherry Quakkelaar.
Dan and Sherry raised their family in the Milwaukee area, Sherry managing the home, and Dan working as a database marketer, mostly in the publishing industry. In 2009 Dan began his theological education in St Louis at Covenant Theological Seminary, graduating with an MDIV in 2013. They both were evaluated at the Atlanta Church Planter Assessment Center in 2013 and were recommended for church planting and given a plan for preparation. The Wisconsin Presbytery of the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) has accepted their vision, and licensed Dan for the preaching of the gospel. They are currently serving an apprenticeship in St Louis. With preparation nearing completion, fundraising for the project is now underway. |
