A report from F.E.A.S.T. (Feeding Everybody At the Same Time) where we were able to provide physical and spiritual nourishment for people.
Dan also talks about our need for financial support from you!

Sherry helps distribute clothing for the new school year at the F.E.A.S.T. outreach at 24th and Lisbon in Milwaukee. Friend of Sinners church has been invited to participate and gather people at such outreaches, which helps to make contacts with more of those who need a home church location, and helps with visibility.
The outreach allowed us to met a large number of new people. Dan gave a 10-15 minute gospel presentation on finding power in the gospel, not in yourself. One woman was deeply affected and went to the prayer tent. She received Christ last week, but is still learning what Christ's death and resurrection really means for her.

Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Law of God

I just finished listening to a message from Nation of Islam lead representative Minister Louis Farrakhan. In his message, Minister Farrakhan preached a message of good works, and he wants to unite Judaism, Christianity and Islam as the three faiths of Abraham. But it's a faith of works. Get yourself clean. No grace, just a kind of mercy.

Now, I believe in the law. I delight in the law of God. The law of God is a wonderful thing. So wonderful, I want the law of God to be fulfilled in every way. The problem with minister Farrakhan’s approach is that his message denigrates the law. Allah is not a God who fulfills the righteous requirements of the law – that when the law is broken, sufficient punishment must be applied to pay the penalty for it. Neither Islam for the Koran provides any atonement for the sin of a believer. Clearly the sin of the unbeliever falls on the unbeliever, but the sin of the believer in Islam is simply overlooked. The law in this sense is abolished for that person.

Minister Farrakhan wants to spread the idea that Jesus was a correction to Judaism, and that Islam, in like manner, is a correction to Christianity. He wants to affirm Christ, but not the Christ I know.

So allow me to correct Farrakhan with the words of Jesus:

  • "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  Mat 5:17-20 ESV

The bottom line is that the law cannot be fulfilled by just forgetting about past sin. Any god, including the Muslim Allah, who shows mercy to sinners by simply forgetting about their sin without any punishment has not fulfilled the law of the True God, but has abolished the law for those people and their lawless past. There is no atonement, and further, it is sin for that god to overlook the breaking of the law. Such a god cannot be considered holy. This kind of god has simply mired himself in the sin of the world by overlooking it.

But Christ came as our substitutionary atonement. He comes to unite us AND to fulfill the law by paying the price in our place. His death on the cross for us is the fulfillment of the law on our behalf, and he is certainly our righteousness.

I warn my Christian brothers and sisters: Do not fall prey to the false prophet Farrakhan, who wishes to draw you away from the one true God by his unholy Islamic doctrine that abolishes the law of God, rather than fulfilling the Law in the substitutionary atonement of Christ. Minister Farrakhan rejects Jesus as the co-eternal and co-equal second person of the one true triune God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit. He only sees Jesus as a prophet.

Do not be deceived. If you follow Nation of Islam, you are walking away from the grace of God.

Carver Park has become a wonderful time of fun and fellowship for everyone.
Dan Gets ready!

Daughter Eliya cares for one of our little treasures. This week we fellowshiped with many of those who came in past weeks, and new friends as well. Dan was able to make a strong contact with a community leader, Jeffery, in the park on Saturday. He was able to learn much from Jeff about the history of the neighborhood.

Sherry prays with one of our neighbors in the park. Carver Park is a family gathering place for the Halyard neighborhood and for Lapham Street neighbors, who used to fight often. These neighborhoods are right next to Brewer's Hill, and are important target areas for the church plant. How providential that Carver Park is a place known for reconciliation.

We are celebrating the wonderful month we have had meeting families in the park. Ministry has shifted from the Pubs, which while effective were family unfriendly, to family friendly parks in the beautiful summer months. However, winter comes soon in Milwaukee, and our evangelism focus will return to the pubs in the cold months, unless we can find and pay for a place to meet in our target neighborhood. Please keep praying for us. God may be calling you to help Friend of Sinners Church financially. If so, be sure to click on the links above to send your gift, or make your pledge to God's work.

Dan preaches on Matthew 9:9-13, where Jesus calls Matthew to be His disciple. This is one of the places in Scripture where Jesus is called a friend of tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees meant that as an insult, but we see it as glorifying Jesus, who loved us even when we were his enemies.
